Greetings from Bagdad, Iraq.
I am from Atlanta and have been a life long student of history. My wife and I were recently reassigned to Fort McPherson after being away 15 years. I am currently deployed to XVIII Airborne Corps and will serve here on my third tour in Iraq until May 2009.
I have studied the History of Atlanta and met and studied with Lt Col Allen P. Julian, In, USA (Deceased) who wrote most of the historical Markers along with Mr. Wilbur Kurtz of the Atlanta Historical Society as a young boy. My main interest has always been the Battle of Utoy Creek, GA. The Former Utoy Primitave Baptist Church was the Hospital used by the Confederates during the siege operations against East Point and the Railroads. My wife and I have been keeping teh cemetery there cleaned up on our own as I believe we are the last members of the Utoy Cemetary Association. Mr. Franklin Garred passed away several years ago. I would like to say hello and ask for your assitance in keeping up the cemetary in my absence.
I would also like to offer to give a program on teh history of SW Atlanta upon my return. I completed the Army Historian Training Course two years ago and function as a historian as an additional duty.
Best wishes to everyone at the Campbellton Lodge #76
Regards,
MAJ Perry Bennett
